Krabi is the capital and main town of Krabi Province on the west coast of southern Thailand, where the Krabi River flows into Phang Nga Bay. The town lies about 650 km south of Bangkok and, as of 2020, had a population of 32,644. As in much of southern Thailand, the local economy centres largely on tourism. Krabi serves as a nature-focused base for exploring the province's national parks, limestone cliffs, and islands, including Ao Nang, Railay, and Ko Phi Phi. The town has a tropical monsoon climate with a long rainy season from March to December. Krabi Airport has served the town since 1999, and Phetkasem Road (Thailand Route 4) passes through it.
