Geneva is Switzerland's second-most populous city and the most populous in French-speaking Romandy, situated in the southwest where the Rhône exits Lake Geneva. It is a global city, an international financial centre, and a worldwide centre for diplomacy, often called the 'Peace Capital'. The city hosts the highest number of international organisations in the world, including many United Nations agencies and the International Committee of the Red Cross. Geneva was where the Geneva Conventions on humanitarian treatment in war were signed, and it hosted the League of Nations after World War I.
